Archie A Pascoe

Archie Pascoe was born in June 1922 at Buckland in the Moor.

Father: Francis Pascoe, Mother: Helena Maude Caunter.

Archie had 6 older brothers and sisters Francis L, Samuel, Renee, William H, Herbert, and Ernest plus one younger brother Robert J. It is believed Archie was educated at Ashburton School.

In 1944 Archie married Constance Rowena Evans at Neath Glamorganshire.

Although it is not known when Archie enlisted into the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, it is probable that he joined in 1940 when he was 18 years of age. Archie enlisted originally as a bandsman but soon transferred to flying duties. He met Constance when they were both posted to the same RAF station in Wales.

Sgt A.A. Pascoe trained as a flight engineer with 619 Squadron stationed at RAF Strubby in Lincolnshire and flying Lancaster Mk111 bombers. On the night of Monday 4th December 1944 his aircraft took off to take part on a bomber raid on Munich in Southern Germany leaving RAF Strubby at 16.42hrs. The plane was shot down by Obit Peter Spoden of the Luftwaffe at 19.38hrs 45 miles south of Munich.

Sgt Archie A.Pascoe along with his five crew mates were all killed in the resultant crash.

All the crew were buried in Durnbach Military Cemetery Miesbacher Landkreis, Bavaria, Germany. Archie Pascoe is also commemorated in St Peter’s Church, Buckland in the Moor, a headstone in the churchyard and on the memorial at RAF Strubby.
