The History Group organised the Beating of the Bounds of the Widecombe-in-the-Moor as a millennium project.

Peter Hirst was the brains behind the organisation which involved liaison with local landowners for permission to walk across their land in order for the beating to keep as close as possible to the true boundary.

The full story will be told in a booklet to be published by the History Group in due course.

The first walk was held on Saturday 6th May 2000, with a repeat in two parts on the following Tuesday and Thursday.
