                               A Meeting of the Widecombe History Group was held at the Church House Widecombe on Wednesday 7th March, 2018.
Peter Carrett was in the chair and  35 members were present.
Apologies  were from Wendy Beard, Paula Stephens, Sue Booty and John and Zena Lowe, Sue Booty, Roger and Ann Claxton.
Chairman signed the minutes with no maters arising.
Proposed Village Hall. Chris Elliot ( a new member) attended on behalf of the newly formed  proposed Village Hall Steering Group. He said the steering group welcomed the interest from WHG. Krissy Blood and Tim Whitten are to represent the WHG on that steering group and they had met with the architect to suggest that WHG would need something in the region of 600 sq mtrs for digitising and storage. A lottery grant of £10,000 for initial expenses had already been obtained. The VH steering group need more feedback as soon as possible, as the next meeting with the architect would be in April, to go forward with planning and funding.
Pig House and Heritage Garden. David Ashman said there had been no work done on site since our last meeting .
A reminder to all, 1) to return nomination forms for Committee , 2) money for the Stover lunch on 18th April. 3) names for Luksland  self drive 24th April. all at the April meeting please .History as it Happens.  Egrets had been seen in the river Webburn. A flock of Redwings had been spotted on the Moor.
There had been a considerable amount of snow and freezing rain in the first week of March with drifts up to 18feet at Blackslade.
Terry’s teaser last month was “ Kiln Close Lane”, this is between Broadaford and Cator.  This month teaser is “Lake Ford”.
Any Other Business.
Local Affordable Housing. A meeting will be held on 22nd March , 7-00pm in Church House open to all.
A collection of old cuttings from Mid Devon Advertiser newspapers, sale notices of Bagpark and music and words of Widecombe bells had been given WHG.

Wednesday, 23rd May.9-00am leave Widecombe.  Coach trip to Oakham Treasures Museum, near Bristol.
Thursday, 14th June.6-30pm Visit to Hunts Cider.
Saturday, 23rd June. Anthony Picnic.  Two Crosses Car Park. 
Wednesday, 25th July.2-00pm  Nature Walk with Geoffrey Fenton.
