Meeting of Widecombe History Group held at the Church House, Widecombe, Wednesday 3rd                                                                    August 2016.
Terry French was in the chair and    members and guests were present.     
Apologies were from Sue Booty, Wendy Beard, Pat and Val Watson, John Kimber, Richard Wells, Paula Stephens, Ann Murphy, Ruth Parnell, Peter and Miho Rennells, Sam Boustead.
The Chairman welcomed Felicity Goodall to give her talk entitled Lost Devon.
The meeting started with Roger Claxton explaining the microphone system which should help all members to hear the speakers, even at the back of the hall.
Matters arising. The BBQ held at Leusdon Memorial Hall on 9th July was attended by 25 members, enjoyed by all. Members also enjoyed the guided walk around Princetown led by Simon Dell. 
Marcia Babbington gave details of the trip to and  walk around Tavistock on Sat 8th October, coach to leave Widecombe at 9-30am cost approx. £13-50. Free time in the morning and the walk to commence at 2pm, for space availability  contact Marcia.
The Peter Hurst walk on 29th August starts at Beltor Carpark near Poundsgate at 2-00pm.
Andy Crabb  had a talk and update on the dig at North Hall Manor site Widecombe, at Shilstone, Modbury on 4th August. Peter Rennells spoke about all his work researching the project.
History as it Happens. The road to Ponsworthy and the bridge was closed for some considerable time for major repairs to the sewerage system at the bridge.
Herbert Lentern otherwise known to all as Arch from Cockingford died.
Terrys Teaser.  ONE MIOL STONE is on the road to Natsworthy just past Stouts Cottage on the left hand side.  This month’s teaser; where is Century Hill?
Project Time.  A film show included  the Devon Dialect Alphabet recited by Anthony Beard, and of him reciting a poem by May Cook called A Bit O’Binder String. A song called “ The Gamekeeper”  with reference to WW1 was  played, it was sung by “Show of Hands” Tuesday, 16th August, 10-00am,
The meeting closed at 9-55pm

Monday, 29th  August, 2-00pm,  Peter Hurst Walk at Beltor carpark, Poundsgate
Tuesday, 6th September, Princetown History Group. Talk given by Tom Greeves entitled John Fitz of Tavistock.
Wednesday, 7th September, 10am- 12noon, Coffee Morning at Leusdon Memorial Hall.
Wednesday, 7th September. 7-30pm.  WHG, a talk by Bill Hardiman –  A factious place of backsides and dung heaps, the life and times of 17th century Moretonians.
Wednesday, 28th September,  4-00pm. Walk around Moretonhampstead with Bill Hardiman.
The second WHG lunch at Stover Golf club.
