World War I Project
Peter Rennells updated the Group about his research.  Not a lot of progress since last month but he had been shown a booklet by another group in a format which is easily produced.  This may be a good way of collating our information in due course.
History As It Happens:
It is 90 years since the Opening of Leusdon Memorial Hall which took place on 19th October 1923.  This information was gained from Lewis Prouse’s Accounts Book.
Terry French has access to Lewis Prouse’s Accounts Book for the years 1907 to 1932. Lewis was a builder/carpenter who lived in Ponsworthy and the Accounts Book contains many historical references, including making desks for Widecombe School and building the Garage at Merry Park.
Moor than Meets the Eye
Anthony has attended another meeting about Moor Than Meets the Eye.  He is hoping for financial help from MTMTE with refurbishing the pig houses in due course.
Archive Centre
Thanks were expressed to Dunstone Chapel who have offered their School Room to the History Group for storage and use of their digitising equipment.
Work has begun on Phase 1 on the Widecombe site, clearing the area around the Pigs Houses.  It is hoped to make the bottom half of the land into a hay meadow with a seat.
Volunteers are needed for two working parties.  The first to continue clearing the site around the Pigs Houses and the second to do some work at Dunstone Chapel, such as painting, clearing gutters and brambles, etc.
