The Tenth Annual General Meeting of The Widecombe & District Local History Group was held at The Church House, Widecombe on Wednesday 2nd May 2007 at 7.30 p.m. Apologies: Peter Rennells, Peter & Dilys Harvey, Fred Daw, Bessie French, Mavis Clipson, Norma Tempest, Rosemary Mortimore, Simon & Annabelle Booty, Ruth Parnell, Arthur Johnson, Anthea Veneables, Marion & Mike Wright, Audrey Lamb, Joyce Heath, Nora Lamb and Pat & Val Watson The AGM preceded the normal May Meeting and was Chaired by Terry French and 45 people attended. The Minutes of the Ninth AGM were read and agreed, having been signed as correct at the monthly meeting in June 2006. Treasurer’s Report: Jenny Pascoe presented the accounts for the fourteen months ending 28th February 2007(see last years minutes). The funds of the group are in a healthy state at £2808.74. There was an excess of expenditure over income of £206.50 but this was mainly due to the launch of our Ponsworthy Book and as there are still several copies in hand which will be favourably reflected in next year’s accounts as they are sold. Roger Whale proposed and Terry French seconded the adoption of the balance sheet and a sincere vote of thanks to Jenny for a brilliant job done as our treasurer and to Andrew Tilt for auditing the accounts again this year. This was unanimously agreed. Chairman’s Report: Terry French reported on another very successful year of activities. The four day trip to Wales was an outstanding success as were all our meetings, excursions and walks. Particular mention to Mike Jones & Richard Wells for organising the Peter Hurst Memorial Walk on 29th August last. Roger & Ann Claxton and Wendy Beard for organising the programme of events and the website. As this concludes the first Ten Years of the group thanks were expressed to Mary & Alan Goodall for organising our Tenth Anniversary Dinner & Dance at Badger’s Holt last Saturday and to Ruth Parnell for making such a delightful anniversary cake and to Aileen & Peter Carrett for photographically recording many of our events during the past ten years. He thanked all the officials for all the work that they had put in and the teams that have worked on the various projects. Last and by no means least he thanked everyone connected with the group for their enthusiasm and support that they had shown in everything undertaken by the group. Secretary’s Report: Anthony Beard thanked the Chairman and all the members for their support and encouragement during the past ten years. The launch of the Ponsworthy book in The Heritage Marquee at Widecombe Fair last September was the culmination of a great deal of work and it has been received very well, making it such a worthwhile venture. The Widecombe Fair book has been a challenge and it is hoped that it will be ready to be launched at Widecombe Fair this September 11th. The strength of any organisation is in its membership, and this is shown by the way each person is always happy to ‘do their bit’ to which our group is a shinning example. The group could not function in the way it does without that commitment. Many many thanks! Election of Officers:
All the above were elected unapposed unanimously!!! The Meeting closed at 7.56 p.m. |
