Christmas is to be extra special in Widecombe this year with lots of extra events being held. A list of some of them is given below. Please contact us if you know of something else that you would like added to the list. Click here for a full list of local Church Services over the Christmas period
FATHER CHRISTMAS IS COMING TO WIDECOMBE!!!

Putting the ‘MAGIC BACK INTO CHRISTMAS’ Father Christmas will be coming down Widecombe Hill by pony and trap with a sack full of presents for all children,(11 years and under). This is to be part of a day when all the village comes together to create a day of Christmas magic. Starting at 10.00am with an hour long peal of our church bells, there will be special events all round the green, the square and in the Church House. The Tavistock Stannary Brass Band will be playing Christmas Carols from 11.00 – 3.00pm. There will be a donkey, sheep and a pony in the Church House garden under a large Christmas tree. The shops and cafés will be putting on special events for children – story telling, icing your own Christmas biscuit, fir cone decorating to name but a few. The Old Inn will be serving mulled wine and mince pies in the square, children can eat for a £1 at the Wayside Café, or drink fruit punch at the Kiosk and there are turkey paninis at the Café on the Green, to warm you up there will be hot soup and roast chestnuts from Friends of Widecombe School. Dads, you can get a free raffle ticket for every pint of beer at the Rugglestone Inn. In the Church House will be the Widecombe Produce Market, packed with seasonal produce, you can buy your raffle ticket here to support the Widecombe History Group – 1st prize Hamper from village market, 2nd prize Dinner for 2 from the Rugglestone Inn, 3rd Prize Cuddly Toy supplied by History Group. 1.00pm Father Christmas starts his journey down Widecombe Hill, visiting shops and cafés on his journey to finally arrive outside The National Trust shop where he will distribute his presents to the children. The day will end with the traditional Carol Service to be held in the church of St Pancras starting at 3.30pm. There has been great support from village traders and The National Trust in order to make this a very special day for all the family and to bring the Christmas Spirit to everyone.
