John Earle has lived on or near Dartmoor since 1948 and for over 40 years at Widecombe-in-the-Moor. Formally a teacher and mountaineer, he became a familiar face on television with his films and programmes that he presented for the BBC, many of which were about Dartmoor. A Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and Alpine Club, a mountaineer and expedition cameraman, John is Head of the Dartmoor Expedition Centre, and has devoted over 30 years of his life to inspiring others with his love of the outdoors. His walking guidebooks draw on his expert knowledge and love of the moor and give a lot of fascinating information and details about Dartmoor even for non-walkers.
The Boot Up series, his most recent books, can be bought at local bookshops and in Widecombe at the Cafe on the Green and the National Trust Shop.
